Google Smart Lens

I am sure everyone has seen the picture floating around.

Well It could be the way of the future. But what about people who can't put contacts into their eyes or who already have problems with their eyes. Should we really be sticking pieces of technology in them. Right now Google has made this awesome piece of technology to help diabetics monitor their glucose levels. There is a chip in it that can read the glucose levels in the persons tears and send it via radio frequency to alert someone when their sugar is either too high or too low. It does not hinder vision. But will you need frequent replacement lens?  This is great and all but again, what about the people who can't wear them? Is there not some other way or something that will work for all kinds of people? I fully understand that there is more research being done into this, getting this off the ground will be very difficult.
The article by google is Here. I also found a report done by the Associated Press on the contact lens.

Is this a really good idea? Should these pieces of technology be even introduced?
